Men's ones triumph at Ipswich, Men's Twos hit six; and Women's Twos vs Threes resuts in chances and goals aplenty!

After a a weekend when six of the seven teams can now post points on the board, there are a number of highlights to reflect upon.

The chief highlight must be the men's first team winning 3:1 away to Ipswich Twos. It was a hard-fought game, marked by tenacious defence and incisive attack to leave Felixstowe deservedly take away the points. There were many highlights but a special mention for Charlie Taylor's quick thinking and superb strike into the top-corner to leave the goalkeeper helpless! With 2 wins from 2, the Ones now face another difficult game against Norwich Dragons' Ones. The Men's Twos took a changed team away to face Norwich Dragons' Twos. The team, a real balance of experience and youth , played some solid hockey to have both possessional and territorial dominance but just could not put the ball in the net. As is often the case, Dragons took one of the few chances they had to leave the team, ably captained by Dave Goode ,to reflect on what might have been as they lost out 1-0. On a brighter note, a very well done to Ben Pavit and Diggory Davies for stepping up and showing their real potential. It was also great to see Sam Harris returning after injury and playing like he was never away! At home, The Men's Threes fielded a strong , well balanced side to overcome a stubborn UEA 3s side and eventually turn dominance into goals so that they finished with a highly satisfying 6-2 win with some very well constructed goals. After losing their opening game last season, the Threes eventually lost just once more to win the league, so who knows..? The Fours finally got a run-out with a bare eleven - an equal mix of experience and inexperience. However, against a well-schooled Ipswich side, two brief periods in which Ipswich scored two goals each time resulted in a 4-0 win for the visitors . Yet there were positives to take away: Howard returned and still seems hale and hearty; Jack Long made his debut; Brodie, Felix and Codie continued to show their potential; and team spirit was excellent.

For the Women's teams, the women's Ones and Twos came away with points to leave all the three teams with scores on the league board. The ones travelled to Sudbury, never an easy place to play and came away with a frustrating point. Frustrating because the balance of play was with the Felixstowe side and the winning goal just would not come. Still, they can reflect on a very solid start to the season and now face Ipswich 4s on Saturday with a real prospect of more points to be posted. Our Women's Twos and Threes faced each other in the league, as they did last season and the game did not disappoint. Both teams competed well with the Twos linking up well down the wings, rewarded with some impressive goals. Despite the goals conceded, the Threes showed excellent resilience to push forward but just couldn't find the back of the net. Most promisingly, they showed notable improvement when compared with last season and a number of players couldn't be split for POM, with Tasha, Tabby, Phoebe, Grace and Kitty sharing the spoils. Immy gained the award for the Twos. So great play throughout the game and both teams should look forward to a satisfying season.

A solid start to the season with turn-out at training growing and a sense of enjoyment on and off the pitch - the foundations are solid!
