Round 19 Round-up

Round 19 Round-up

Denis Keegan10 Mar - 10:17

A weekend of big scores as the Women's Ones and Twos chase promotion!

It was a weekend when the weather smiled and many teams made hay in the sun with Felixstowe teams at both ends of convincing score-lines!

A table-topping position remains so, so close for the women's first team as they claimed full points with a 4:1 win at Framlingham. The win leaves them in first place with a slim 1 point margin over Ipswich 3s who will be coming to Felixstowe next weekend for a potentially title deciding match - it coudn't be more dramatic! The PB is 1645, so do come along and cheer the team on! The women's twos enjoyed a veritable goal-fest against an inexperienced but resiliant IES development team. The final result was 13:0 but could have been more but for the determination of the visitors, many of whom will no doubt come back as they move through the teams at IES. The twos are now 3rd in the league, just two points off BSE 5s as they travel to play an IES 3s team who will no doubt be doubly determined to avoid a loss at home.'The'threes' travelled to face a tough test at 6th placed Ipswich 5s. Though losing 3:0, they remain in tenth place and can again consider so many positives in their play. They now look forward to playing 7th placed Colchester 4s in another stiff examination!

The men's teams were not to be outdone on the high-scoring front and ended the day with 2 wins and 2 defeats. At UEA, the 'ones' overcame the disappointment of last weeks's loss to IES !s to play a controlled game and run out 4:2 winners after leading 3:1 at half-time. They are still in 4th place but with IES 2s losing, third place is still on the horizon. They will need to be at their best however to overcome a strong and tirle chasing Colchester team at home. The men's twos travelled to Ipswich for a late and challenging game against title chasing Ipswich 3s. The result was a 6:1 loss but we had chances and the consolation of scoring the last goal! This weekend will see them facing East Coast who are on the same number of points - victory would see them into a creditable top 8 finish. The third team 'upped' their goal difference with a 9:0 win over a weakened BSE 5ss team who to trheir credit, battled throughout. Well doen to Jay for a hat-trick! They can now travel on the long journey to Cromer with a spring in their step and the prospect of a top 6 finish in a new division - no mean feat! For the fours/development team, it was a very difficult game against a hugely experienced and talented IES 3s team which is strolling to promotion. Despite the 12:0 scoreline, they never gave up and the development of our newer players is there for all to see. They'll travel in determined fashion to Colchester this weekend for anotrher test!

It's a season with much still to play for and your support is invaluable as as the commitment of thiose players who stepped up and'or 'doubled up' to help the development team - thank you!
