A clean-sheet of wins at home but travelling teams come away pointless...

On an opening day when the sun shone and temperatures on the pitch rose, six of our seven teams began their campaigns. By the end of the day, the Women's ones and threes; and the Men's ones and twos had posted hard-fought wins while the Women's twos and Men's threes faced defeat away.

The day opened postively at home with the Women's ones building on their great progress last season with a well earned 3:1 win against BSE 4s. The play was positive and resulted in well taken goals as a result. The Men's 2s followed and after a bright start, found themselves in an attritional battle against a tenacious Dereham second team who will rue a missed point. Fortunately a 70th minute goal gave the twos a great start to the season. The Men's ones played with purpose to knock in 5 against a hard-working Norwich City 3s team. It was encouraging to see short - corners being converted into goals - work on the training ground paid off! The women's 3s played very well, achieving field position and possessional dominance as they had done in their warm-up games. Happily this was rewarded on their opening day with a hat-trick of goals - the potential for more is there and it was great to see Ketty make her debut.

Unfortunately, our travelling teams did not fare so well. After a really strong finish to last season, the women's 2s did not play in the way that they can and came home disappointed with their result - a 4:1 defeat away at BSE. They will be looking forward to putting things right this Saturday against Felixstowe 3s which will be great game to watch! Our Men's 3s, after promotion to DIvision 4, travelled to Derham. With a number of regulars unavailable, a squad of 12 travelled, fortified by several 4th teamers who did not let the side down! A special mention for Chas playing in his first ever league match! Though losing 6-2, Felixstowe had as many chances but did not convert with the precision of the home team which was the critical difference. They can look forward with confidence as players return.

So a lot of positives on day one and much to look forward to this coming Saturday. With a great atmosphere in the club-house and our new range of beers from Woodfords, it will be great to see you pitchside and in the clubhouse afterwards!
